How to Download a Lithuanian Keyboard for iPhone

Typing Lithuanian on an iPhone doesn't have to be frustrating. This guide shows you how to download and set up VSKS, a free Lithuanian keyboard with full character support.

Why the Default iOS Keyboard Falls Short

Apple's built-in iOS keyboard does include Lithuanian as a language option, but it has a major limitation: to type Lithuanian characters like Ą, Č, Ę, Ė, Į, Š, Ų, Ū, and Ž, you need to long-press the base letter and then select the accented version from a popup menu. This makes typing slow and unnatural, especially for longer texts.

If you write in Lithuanian regularly, you need a keyboard where every Lithuanian character has its own dedicated key — no long-pressing required.

What is VSKS?

VSKS is a free Lithuanian keyboard app for iPhone that gives you a full Lithuanian character layout. Every Lithuanian letter has its own key on the keyboard, so you can type as naturally as you would on a physical Lithuanian keyboard.

Key features:

  • Full Lithuanian layout — Ą, Č, Ę, Ė, Į, Š, Ų, Ū, Ž all have dedicated keys
  • Free forever — the core keyboard is completely free
  • Works offline — no internet connection needed
  • Privacy-first — no typing data is collected or sent anywhere
  • AI Autocomplete — on-device AI suggests words as you type (Pro feature)
  • Emoji suggestions — get emoji recommendations based on your words (Pro feature)

Step 1: Download VSKS from the App Store

Open the App Store on your iPhone and search for "VSKS". You can also use this direct link. Tap Get to download the app for free.

Step 2: Open Settings

After installing, open the Settings app on your iPhone.

Step 3: Navigate to Keyboard Settings

Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards.

Step 4: Add VSKS as a New Keyboard

Tap "Add New Keyboard..." and select VSKS from the list of third-party keyboards.

Step 5: Enable Full Access

Tap on VSKS in your keyboard list, then enable "Allow Full Access". This is needed for features like autocomplete to work. VSKS does not collect or transmit any typing data — everything stays on your device.

Step 6: Start Typing in Lithuanian

Open any app where you can type (Messages, Notes, WhatsApp, etc.). Tap the globe icon on your keyboard to switch to VSKS. You'll see all Lithuanian characters right on the main keyboard layout — no long-pressing needed.
